Tooth whitening is a relatively simple and non-invasive procedure to brighten your smile. The treatment can either be carried out in the comfort of your own home or in the practice with one of our experienced hygienists.

Teeth can yellow naturally as we age, or they may yellow from smoking, tea, coffee, red wine and the like.

Tooth whitening can be done once your full dental examination has been done and all the relevant treatment completed (especially a professional clean).

Our dentists or hygienists will fully explain both methods (take home or in chair), what to expect and how to care for your teeth before, during and after the procedure. A colour shade can be taken of your teeth prior to starting and then afterwards if you wish to see how much your teeth have lightened

Tooth whitening may not be suitable for everyone. Examples include, but are not limited to pregnancy, breastfeeding, excessive drinkers or smokers, people under 18 years old, those with excessively sensitive teeth and those with some types of chronic ulceration.

The tooth whitening procedure does not whiten any restorations placed in teeth, for example, fillings and crowns. Any restorations that may appear discoloured after tooth whitening can be replaced once the whitening treatment has been completed. This can all be discussed beforehand with our dentists prior to starting the tooth whitening treatment.
