Dysport, or Botulinum Toxin Type A (BTx-A), popularly known by the brand name BotoxTM, can be used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead (vertical frown lines and/or horizontal lines) and around the eyes (“Crows Feet”). It can also be used to reduce the appearance of a “gummy smile” by relaxing the upper lip. Dysport can be safely injected into the relevant areas with minimal discomfort to reduce the appearance of wrinkles with the effects lasting for 3-6 months.
Dentists undergo thorough training to be able to administer Dysport and are some of the best people to be able to carry out these services with their extensive knowledge of the head and neck areas.
Not only can Dysport be used as an anti-wrinkle treatment, it can also be used therapeutically to alleviate the symptoms of tooth grinding or bruxism. With bruxism, not only are the teeth suffering from the grinding action, the facial muscles can also suffer from excessive tension which can lead to facial pain, jaw joint pain, headaches or neckaches and overdeveloped jaw muscles. Injecting small amounts of Dysport into the relevant facial muscles can alleviate these symptoms by allowing the muscles to relax and in turn decrease the effects of tooth grinding. Overdeveloped facial muscles can also reduce back to a normal size. Other voluntary movements such as chewing, speaking and facial expression are not affected at all.
